Bangalore, May 4(agencies): A 24-year-old student from Manipur allegedly committed suicide after a spat with his girlfriend, who hails from the same state, in his house in the south-east suburbs of the city, a senior police official said Friday.
"On receiving a call about the incident late Thursday, our night patrol team rushed to the house in Mico layout and found Heisnam Jackio Singh hanging by a rope to a ceiling fan and his girl friend Sarfina sobbing," Bangalore South-East Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) P.S. Harsha told IANS.
Police Friday registered a case of unnatural death under section 174 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and are waiting for the post-mortem report from a state-run hospital where the body was sent for autopsy.
"According to oral statements by witnesses in the locality, Singh and Sarfina had heated exchanges prior to the incident which appeared to have happened around 11.30 p.m.," Harsha said.
Singh was a third year under-graduate student of Bangalore College of Engineering at Chandrapura on the city's outskirts while 20-year-old Sarfina is studying at Jyoti Nivas College in the city and staying separately as a paying guest.
Singh's tragic death came nearly three weeks after another Manipuri student Richard Loitam (19) was found dead April 18 in his hostel room in the city after he was allegedly assaulted by his two friends in a brawl.
Police had booked cases against Loitam's two friends Vishal Banerjee and Syed Afzal Ali but not arrested the duo as the case is still under investigation.
