IMPHAL, April 24: Even though the state is facing acute financial difficulties, the state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has reportedly exuded confidence of overcoming the difficulties, according to highly placed sources.
It may be recalled here that, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had warned the state government to clear an overdraft of Rs 362 crores on April 7 giving 21 days notice.
The state resorted to Ways and Means advance and it could garner about Rs 162 crores leaving the overdraft to 200 crores.
The state finance department had been discussing whether to avail the Special Ways and Means which has a higher interest.
However, the Chief Minister in his recent trip to New Delhi for the internal security met several central ministers including the Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and had requested them to bail out the state government.
The central leaders apparently happy with the high voltage performance of the Congress in the recent assembly elections reportedly assured him of all possible help. (IFP)
