The warning for occasionally wet, progressively violent but largely cool weather has been retained for much of northwest for next three days.
Squalls and thundershowers have been forecast for entire north-west and adjoining east India during this period.

TROUGH ACROSS

The violent weather is being attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation over Haryana. It is an offspring of a prevailing western disturbance in the region.
The disturbance lay spread-eagled over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. It would affect western Himalayan region during next three days.
A trough (with attendant wet or unstable weather) from the cyclonic circulation ran across Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal to Manipur.
Another trough extended from Chhattisgarh down west-southwest towards south Tamil Nadu across Telangana.
Meanwhile, the cool weather could delay the formation of a ‘seasonal low' (lower air pressure from core heating) in the region at least for the time being.

SEASONAL ‘LOW'

The seasonal ‘low' is a major enabler of the southwest monsoon that hits the Kerala less than two months from now.
It is the main land-based feature around which moisture-laden south-westerly winds from the high-pressure region in nearby ocean rally to precipitate the rains.
The seasonal ‘low' should start building from mid-April, but as things stand, it may take some doing.
This is because international weather models see another western disturbance likely embedded with cyclonic circulation trooping into northwest by April 20.

RAINS FORECAST

It could pour cold water over any heat building in the northwest and delay the formation of the seasonal ‘low.'
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers at many places over western Himalayan region during next two days.
Rains are also likely over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi and at one or two places over Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Associated clouding is expected to cause maximum temperatures to by 3-5 deg Celsius over northwest India until the weekend.
